Infineon’s OptiMOS source bottom power MOSFET family adds new 40 V device in PQFN package

[Munich, Germany, November 3, 2020]Contemporary power system designs require high power density levels and compact form factors for the highest system-level performance. Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) is addressing this challenge by focusing on strengthening component products to systematic innovation. Following the introduction of the 25 V device in February, Infineon has introduced the OptiMOS 40 V low voltage power MOSFET in a Source-Down (SD, Source-Down) PQFN package measuring 3.3mm x 3.3mm. This 40 V SD MOSFET is suitable for SMPS, telecom, and OR-ing in servers, as well as applications such as battery protection, power tools, and chargers.

OptiMOS SD 40 V low voltage power MOSFETs are available in two versions: standard and center gate. The center grid plate is optimized for parallel operation of multiple units. With a device size of 3.3mm x 3.3mm in a submount source (SD) PQFN package, the RDS(on) can be greatly reduced by 25%, and the thermal resistance RDS(on) between the junction and the case is greatly improved.

The inside of the SD package uses an upside-down die. This allows the source potential (rather than the drain potential) to be connected to the PCB through the thermal pad. This version ultimately results in a significant 25% reduction in RDS(on) compared to the current state of the art. The junction-to-case thermal resistance (RthJC) is also significantly improved compared to conventional PQFN packages. SD OptiMOS can withstand high continuous currents up to 194 A. In addition, optimized configuration possibilities and more efficient PCB utilization allow for greater design flexibility and outstanding performance.
