“Tianque” 10-ton liquid oxygen methane engine (TQ-11) system-wide test run was a complete success

On November 30, 2019, Blue Arrow Aerospace’s “Tianque” 10-ton liquid oxygen methane engine (TQ-11) was successfully tested for the whole system. The development of the Suzaku-2 launch vehicle power system has taken another big step forward.

TQ-11 is the only existing multi-nozzle liquid oxygen methane rocket engine in China, and it is the second-stage swimming engine of the Suzaku-2 liquid carrier rocket.

In this test run, the engine was started and shut down smoothly and quickly, the measured results were in good agreement with the calculated values, the working heights of the four thrust chambers were consistent, the vibration pulsation amplitude of each component was low, and the product was in good condition after the test. This test run preliminarily examined the feasibility of the engine technical solution, the rationality of the start-up and shutdown sequence, the effectiveness of a number of innovative technological breakthroughs, and the adaptability of the horizontal state of the swimming machine test station.

TQ-11 has a vacuum thrust of 8.2 tons and a vacuum specific impulse of 333s. It adopts gas generator circulation and coaxial turbo pump. One turbo pump supplies 4 thrust chambers. In the state of swimming, it shares the valve with the 80-ton main thrust engine. The engine adopts post-pump rocking technology, and the rocking angle reaches ±25° to realize the pitch, yaw and roll control of the rocket; the self-generated pressurization technology is adopted, which can directly provide pressurized medium for the propellant storage tank; through the extensive use of 3D printing technology , improving the efficiency of component manufacturing.

TQ-11 has made breakthroughs and applied a series of advanced technologies in the development. It is the first time in China to apply the hydrodynamic sealing technology to the development of liquid rocket engine engineering. This technology is one of the keys to the repeated use of the engine, with low leakage and zero wear , Adapt to the characteristics of multiple starts and stops, which will fundamentally improve the reliability of the engine. It is the first time in China to break through the technology of high-precision high-pressure low-temperature mixing ratio regulator. The regulator is driven by a motor and a controller to realize stepless adjustment of the low-temperature engine mixing ratio. carrying capacity.

In the early stage, the main components of the engine have been fully tested and assessed. The gas generator thermal test was completed in January, the thrust chamber test was completed in July, and the semi-system test was completed in September.

In the follow-up model of the Suzaku-2 rocket, TQ-11 will use a large-area ratio nozzle thrust chamber and share other components to form a three-stage engine with a vacuum thrust of 8.8 tons and a vacuum specific impulse of 357s.

With the smooth progress of the “80+10” two types of engines, the development of the Blue Arrow Aerospace Suzaku-2 carrier rocket is progressing steadily, and a number of tests such as the second-level power system test and the first-level power system test will be carried out in the future.
